David Reed

Foreign artists · American conceptual artist, known primarily for his abstract painted canvases, but also works with the media of installation and video.

About author

Born in San Diego, California in 1946, David Reed was inspired to study art by an undergraduate teacher, then attended the Studio School in New York and the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine, eventually establishing a studio in New York. With his abstract compositions, he explores conscious and unconscious time in addition to human emotions. Reed's intense color palettes are compared to the religious lighting of the Baroque period. The viewer's eye perceives movement in Reed's elongated paintings, therefore they evoke the feeling of a cinematic view that flows in a certain direction, just as a stroke is repeated from picture to picture, which creates the impression of an apparition or a composite picture. In addition to painting, he also creates installations and video art, and is also involved in teaching.
